The weather and conditions on the Potomac River are changing in a big way right now. The much colder temperatures and strong winds have made locating bass a bigger challenge. Yes the grassbeds are starting to break up. The great news is that there are still plenty of beautiful Potomac river bass to be caught if you can locate them and figure out how to catch them. The water temperatures have dropped into the low 60's and many bass are moving back into the more protected creeks. I was out on the river 3 days over the past week and caught multiple limits of bass using crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzz baits, and soft plastics. The bass are very aggressive and putting up amazing fights. On my Potomac guide trip monday 12 October Kevin Holderby lost a really big bass on a Booyah Boogie bait and did manage to catch a huge snakehead. We will publish the picture of Kevin and his buddy Dave Ellenbecker holding the big snakehead early next week. Monday we caught around 40 bass through the full day of fishing and had a great time catching all those fish. The Potomac River Bass are relating to both grassbeds and hard structure such as laydowns, docks, and rocks. As the weather continues to become colder look for crankbaits to become more and more effective. We are ready to take you out in October, November, and December for those of you who like to get out in the cooler weather to catch big bass and have a fun filled day on the water. Dress warm and catch a big one. See you on the water.
